Welcome to my website!
A fan of fine woodworking and artisan craftsmanship, this is my quest in pursuing the art in creating museum quality jewelry boxes and chests. From a selection of hand-picked beautifully figured Arizona Mesquite to some outrageous Hawaiian Koa, these one-of-a-kind boxes take form. Some fine examples are in the “gallery” section which features some of my past and present work.
My focus is on quality, I do not use any plywood or veneers and absolutely no fakes of any kind. These boxes are made from real wood. I take special care to dry my lumber to 7% moisture content while my shop stays at 40% humidity, which I feel is ideal for fine woodworking. Even though I take great care in my lumber prep there is always going to be some slight movement with these boxes. Artisans from around the world know that even after a tree has been harvested and the lumber is milled and dried, that there is always going to be some slight movement. The tree that never dies!
The only metal on my boxes are in the handcrafted wooden hinges. Even the compound drawer slide I craft is made with mesquite or Kiawe, which is the Hawaiian name for mesquite, a very hard and stable wood. These boxes are hand oiled with a liquid beeswax combination and finished with a quality furniture paste wax. I use two types of liners. One is velvet - I use Fidelio by JB Martin and on some of my Western-style mesquite boxes I use leather. Also check out the turquoise inlay in the mesquite boxes, which adds a beautiful touch!
There are many fine craftsmen creating all kind of boxes with all sorts of unique features and personal touch. We all try to make our boxes special. I believe heirlooms need to be passed on!
